ntop – Network Traffic Probe

ntop is a excellent Network Traffic monitoring tool and a very handy thing to have on your network, as it provides a snapshot of the traffic flying around.
Once installed you can view the network traffic information via a web browser, and ntop doesn’t even need Apache installed!Installing it onto a Debian box with these quick commands:

  1. #aptitude install ntop
  2. Accept the default ntop username
  3. Set the admin password for the ntop username with #ntop -A
  4. Start the ntop service if it’s not already started with #/etc/init.d/ntop start
  5. Now start a web browser and point it to this servers IP Address in this case http://192.168.1.25:3000
